Hyping big titles is a very risky way to promote your product. Even the biggest names like Rockstar Games have a limit for hyping their product. Well, Cyberpunk 2077 has the worst marketing department ever I've seen for a while. They almost showed %50 of the game on YouTube as trailers. I remember that they were even starting a series about the game that hasn't been released yet. Well, it backfired as expected.
A big part of the features shown in the trailer is not in the final game. I saw a lot more dynamic world in the gameplay trailers. I don't understand why still companies show these features even though they can't make these features. But that's not all because these missing features are not full of downgrades. There are missing features. In the early gameplay trailer, there is a section that we have an option to select our background profile and other RPG options too. They are not in the final game too. Actually, this game is not an RPG game at all. This is huge marketing fail because either all of the marketing department don't know anything about the RPG statement or all of the CDPR don't know anything about the RPG statement. And I find CDPR very desperate in this situation because they change the game description on Twitter from RPG to Action Adventure. The marketing department of the CDPR company should be blacklisted in the industry. This is one of the most unsuccessful marketing campaigns that I've seen in my life.
I've finished this game in 1.04, 1.05, and 1.1 patches. I have never, ever and ever seen this kind of mess in my whole life. Every corner has bugs in this game. Nearly all story missions and cutscenes have bugs. But this is not all. There is no attention to detail in this game. And they said that they were working so hard attention to detail in this game. I remember that they designed different trashes for a different region. But what we get? Missing animations. (GTA San Andreas from 2004 has some better animations when compared with this game) Broken traffic mechanics (even old lego games have better traffic mechanics than this game) and lots of other stuff. (you can find all of them on YouTube. Painful to watch) And the most disappointing point was I played my last couple of hours in the 1.1 patches and nothing was changed in the game and on top of it working features became broken in the game. But I need to give one credit to the CDPR team. They said that this game is going to have a replayability feature. YES! YOU CAN PLAY THIS GAME AGAIN WHEN IT'S DEVELOPED PROPERLY WITH FREE DLC.
Well, this game is removed from PS4 due to poor performance. Luckily I have a PC. But Cyberpunk does its thing again. It has a very poor performance on PC. The first screen that I saw in the game had broken textures. That was my first experience. So I updated my GeForce Driver. But then I couldn't get any decent performance with Zotac GTX 1070 Amp Extreme. So I found some special specs for this game on YouTube. I could manage to play with those specs but I never had stable 60 FPS. Actually, FPS was mostly going between 30-50.
If give some attention to the main storyline you can easily see that the main story has been cut in the half. My guess is they probably cut the all Jackie storyline from the game because Keanu Reeves wanted to have more part in this game. I don't want to give any spoilers but I strongly believe that cutting Jackies storyline has ruined the whole main campaign experience. I found the main story short and it could be so much better if they didn't cut those Jackie storyline contents.
AI was one of the worst that I've seen for a while. (maybe the worst) It was very disgusting and I don't want to waste my time talking about this game's AI.
Speaking of storyline, selecting paths have nearly no effect in this game. You will just have some different dialog options, 20 minutes long different prologue, and some extra side quests (but they are not worth seeing), and that's pretty much it. Also, optional dialog options in this game are useless. Most of the optional script is boring.
The game design is pretty broken too. Leveling up is not rewarding in this game because you will become overpowered in this game by the end of level 20. There is no need to focus on any specific skill set because if you just open the critical abilities in a specific skill set you can perfectly master your character in that skill set. Most of the skills in this game are don't need to.
Also, this game has so many pointless features. The crafting system and all of the crafting abilities in this game are pointless. You can't gain any advantage from them because all of the items can be easily dropped by enemies. Also, guns are pretty broken and badly designed too. I finished the game with nearly 3 guns and never needed to use a shotgun or SMG. Revolvers and sniper rifles kill the enemies with only one shot. When I watch the gameplay trailer of this game, I found the weapon system very similar to the Borderlands series. But this weapon system can't even come near to the Borderlands series. It's just not entertaining.
This game just had done right on 2 critical points. One is world-building. (not referring to a living world) They have created a very catchy fictional city. World design was awesome. I really liked it. Also, characters all of the characters were well created and designed. Especially Jackie. He was a very well designed character in so many ways but they cut half of his parts in this game. Thanks, CDPR.
This game has so many things in a very poor way. But this is an interesting one to review. Despite this game became a scandal in the sector, it is still streets ahead of all of the Ubisoft games. Why?
They introduced a new IP to us. We need new IPs. Not Far Cry 9. Their aim is not to develop 5 games in a year. They aim to make a masterpiece. Their core value is not money. I hope they remember this in their next title.
Some parts of this game had really hard work on it. Let's have Ubisoft games as an example. All of the features are usually have average performance in Ubisoft games. So the final product becomes average too. But this game had a different build. They have done so many things at a very bad level but they have over succeeded on some critical points (like world design, characters, etc.), and this led Cyberpunk 2077 to have a good performance. This will be a very great case for the companies in the future development. Because we've seen that you can actually fail on most of your game, but if you nail some critical parts right you can still have a better experience than a decent game. (This game still has mostly positive reviews on Steam)
I really felt bad about CDPR. They've just lost control of their beautiful work. If they didn't rush this game, Cyberpunk 2077 had could have been a masterpiece. They just missed their chances. But CDPR still has a bright future ahead. If they try new IPs and keep the creativity and hard work on this level they will probably introduce us to some future masterpieces.
